Technical Definition

Building and operating in-house AI infrastructure and models to keep full control of data and reduce dependence on hyperscalers.

How it works

Sovereign AI (or AI sovereignty) refers to the development, hosting, and operation of AI infrastructure — compute, models, and data pipelines — under an organization's or nation's own control. The goal is to preserve independence from a small number of large international providers, maintain full jurisdiction over sensitive company and customer data, and comply with regional regulation. It often combines on-prem or regional cloud GPUs with open-weights models and private data stacks.
