TL;DR. Designing websites, APIs and documentation so AI agents — not just people — can understand and use them easily.

Technical Definition

Designing websites, APIs and documentation so AI agents — not just people — can understand and use them easily.

How it works

Agent Experience is the agent-era counterpart to user experience. As buying, booking and support flows shift from humans clicking to agents acting, the 'interface' a business presents becomes machine-readable surfaces: structured product data, machine-negotiable APIs, agent-legible policies and docs written so a model can parse intent and constraints without a screen. Teams now optimize for both audiences at once — a checkout flow that renders beautifully for a person and resolves cleanly through an agent's tool calls. AX borrows UX's core discipline (reduce friction, remove ambiguity) but applies it to tokens and schemas: clear error semantics, predictable state, stable identifiers. By late 2026 'AX' showed up in job posts and platform roadmaps alongside SEO, a sign that being legible to agents is becoming a traffic channel of its own.
